Mr. Fred Luehring
Mr. Luehring joined St. Philip’s faculty as an 8th grade instructor beginning in the fall of 2016. Previously he has enjoyed teaching 5th-9th grades and has served in various administrative capacities over 37 years.
Married in Massachusetts in 1980, Mr. Luehring & his wife Carol have been blessed with six children: Kathy, Mark, Rachel, Karen, Ruth and David. Each child matured through Dad’s classroom, to college & career. Since “all work & no play” is ill-advised; Mr. Luehring, wife & family enjoy many summers of sports, recreation & travel (hunting & fishing; biking & boating; soccer, basketball & football; US travel to Northeast, South, Southwest & West). You name it, we do it!
Mr. Luehring received a teaching degree from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1979, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota in 1983. Prior to his arrival at St. Philip’s, he was privileged to share Jesus with many urban & suburban teens in a variety of locations:
Good Shepherd Lutheran School of Sioux Falls, SD serving 5th-8th grades & principal (1979-92)
Our Redeemer Lutheran School of Madison, WI serving 7th-8th grades & principal (1992-95)
St. Paul Lutheran School of Lake Mills, WI serving 7th-8th grades & principal (1995-2011)
Hope Christian School: Prima of Milwaukee, WI serving as dean of students (2012-16)
When asked why he became a Christian educator, Mr. Luehring’s response echoed the Apostle Paul’s words “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live… I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Gal 2:20) He continued, “Christian teaching is a joyful reflection of God’s love for me. I find again and again that God’s Word has the power to move tough teenage hearts. When a teen’s heart is touched by the Word, challenges turn into opportunities, struggles turn into successes, pure pessimism turns into amazing optimism! Who wouldn’t crave that?
