Mr. Michael DeRuiter is our 7th grade teacher. He came to St. Philip’s in 2014.
Mr. DeRuiter is married to Mrs. Melissa DeRuiter. Mrs. DeRuiter also graduated from college with a teaching degree and has taught English at Michigan Lutheran Seminary as well as preschool in Palos Heights, IL. They have 3 children, Caleb , Mollie, and Elise.
Mr. DeRuiter was born and raised in Michigan. He attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary.
Mr. DeRuiter graduated from Martin Luther College in 2005. Since graduation, Mr. DeRuiter served for 10 years as principal and teacher at St. Andrew Lutheran School in Chicago, IL.
When asked why he became an educator, Mr. DeRuiter said: “It is my joy and privilege to serve in this capacity. I love being in the classroom and preparing children for future success through a quality Christ-centered education. I strive to create exciting, interactive lessons that leave the students with a better grasp and understanding of the Lord's amazing creation. Technology has proven to be an incredible tool that I enjoy incorporating into our daily activities.
